
BOGOTA, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Defending champion Nuria Llagostera Vives of Spain lost her second-round match Wednesday at the Copa Sony Ericsson Colsanitas tennis tournament in Bogota.
Unseeded Patricia Mayr of Austria topped the event's No. 4 seed 7-6 (10-8), 6-3.
The 96th-ranked Mayr joined the WTA Tour last season, but has never won a tournament. She was a member of the 2008 Austrian Fed Cup squad.
In other action Wednesday, No. 5 seed Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic was beaten by Romania's Edina Gallovits 6-3, 6-4.
Romania's Ioana Raluca Olaru and Slovenia's Masa Zec Peskiric also joined the winners' column. Olaru topped Estonian Maret Ani 6-4, 6-2, while the unheralded Peskiric knocked off top-seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) on Tuesday.
In Friday's quarterfinals Peskiric will face Gallovits and Mayr faces Olaru.
