WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Feb. 18 (UPI) -- James Johnson scored 24 points Wednesday, lifting eighth-ranked Wake Forest to a milestone victory with an 87-69 win over Georgia Tech.

The Demon Deacons, in their 103d season of basketball, were victorious for the 1,400 time. The school's all-time record is 1,400-1,057.

Wake Forest (20-4, 7-4 ACC) also avenged a Jan. 31 loss to Georgia Tech. That was the Yellow Jackets' only victory in their last 11 games.

Jeff Teague contributed 15 points for Wake Forest and Al-Farouq Aminu had 14. Ishmael Smith had eight assists, moving him past 400 for his career.

Georgia Tech (10-15, 1-11) was led by Lewis Clinch with 24 points.

The Yellow Jackets were within five with 13 minutes to play, but Wake Forest went on a 14-2 run to break things open. The Demon Deacons owned a 29-10 lead midway through the first half.
