COL BKB: N. Carolina, 89, N.C. State 80

CHAPEL HILL, N.C., Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Tyler Hansbrough scored 27 points Wednesday and touched off a second-half run that paced No. 3 North Carolina to an 89-80 win over North Carolina State.

The Tar Heels won their 10th straight and took a two-game lead in the Atlantic Coast Conference race.

Hansbrough, who scored just eight points in his previous outing against Miami, recorded a 3-point play that ignited a 14-point surge early in the second half.

Wayne Ellington added 16 points, including nine in a row late in the game. Danny Green made 8-of-12 from the field and scored 19 points for the Tar Heels (24-2, 10-2 ACC).

North Carolina State (14-10, 4-7) had won three of its previous four games. The Woldpack was led by Javier Gonzalez with 18 points and Dennis Horner with 13.
