LAWRENCE, Kan., Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich staked Kansas to a quick start Wednesday and the 18th-ranked Jayhawks held on to defeat Iowa State 72-55.
Kansas reached the 21-win mark for the 20th consecutive season.
Both Collins and Aldrich scored 22 points, igniting a first-half surge that gave the Jayhawks a 30-13 advantage. The Cyclones battled back to within five early in the second half, but Kansas pulled away down the stretch.
Aldrich had 11 rebounds and Collins hit 4-of-6 shots from 3-point range. Kansas improved to 21-5 for the season and to 10-1 in the Big 12 Conference. It was the Jayhawks' 10th win in 11 games.
Iowa State (13-13, 2-9) was led by Craig Brackins with 20 points. The Cyclones have lost eight of nine, their only win in that stretch coming against Colorado Feb. 11.
