
GLENDALE, Ariz., Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Sheldon Souray scored early in the third period to break a 1-1 tie Monday night and the Edmonton Oilers held on to beat Phoenix 3-1.
Ales Hemsky put the Oilers ahead 1-0 with his 18th goal, following assists by Dustin Penner and Shawn Horcoff, at 15:43 of the second. The Coyotes tied the game with 3 seconds left in the period on a power-play goal by Ed Jovanovski, assisted by Shane Doan and Joakim Lindstrom.
Souray scored what turned out to be the game winner at 5:33 of the third, with assists by Hemsky and Tom Gilbert. Horcoff scored his 13th goal of the season on an empty-net with 24 seconds to play, after assists by Kyle Brodziak and Gilbert.
Dwayne Roloson allowed one goal on 29 shots for Edmonton, which has won three straight games following two consecutive losses.
Mikael Tellqvist gave up two goals on 28 shots for Phoenix, which lost its third straight.
