STORRS, Conn., Feb. 15 (UPI) -- University of Connecticut guard Jerome Dyson will have surgery to repair a torn right knee ligament and is out indefinitely.
The 6-foot-4 inch junior from Rockville, Md. underwent an MRI last Thursday where results of the tear were confirmed. The top-ranked Huskies will make a decision about his playing status after the procedure, scheduled for Monday at Windham Hospital in Willimantic, Conn.
Dyson was injured early in the first half of the top-ranked Huskies' 63-49 win at Syracuse Wednesday.
"I'm definitely looking into the future," he told the Hartford Courant before Saturday's 62-54 victory at Seton Hall.
"We are obviously all very disappointed for Jerome, who has been such a big part of why we are 23-1 and in first place in the Big East," Coach Jim Calhoun said last week.
Dyson had started 24 games this season and was averaging 13.2 points per contest. He reached double figures in 18 games and led the Huskies in scoring five times.
