PARIS, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo posted a three-set triumph over Serbia's Jelena Jankovic Saturday and will play Elena Dementieva Sunday at the Paris Open.
Serena Williams, the top-ranked woman in the world after her Australian Open triumph, withdrew from the tournament. She said she hurt her right knee Friday in a quarterfinal win over Emilie Loit and it did not feel right Saturday.
Dementieva, who lost to Williams in the Aussie Open semifinals last month, was the beneficiary Saturday and advanced to play in her third title match of 2009. She won Australian Open tuneup tournaments in Auckland and Sydney to begin the campaign and owns a match record of 19-1 -- not including Saturday's walkover win -- for the year.
The third-seeded Russian will try for her 14th career title Sunday when she faces the eighth-seeded Mauresmo, who beat Jankovic 6-2, 0-6, 6-1.
