Retief Goosen leads at Pebble Beach

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Two-time U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen, seeking his first PGA Tour win in more than three years, grabbed the lead Friday at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Goosen shot an 8-under 64 at the Pebble Beach Golf Links to move two shots in front midway through one of the tour's prestige stops. He was at 12-under 132 while Dustin Johnson was alone in second at 134 after firing a 69 at Spyglass Hill Friday.

The 180-player field plays one round each over the Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills courses before the 54-hole cut survivors compete at Pebble Beach during Sunday's final round.

Robert Garrigus (71-Poppy Hills), Charley Hoffman (70-Poppy Hills), Mike Weir (69-Pebble Beach) and Mark Calcavecchia (69-Pebble Beach) were tied for third at 136.

Phil Mickelson was at 1-under 143 and Vijay Singh, playing for the first time in a month after undergoing shoulder surgery, was at 3-over 147.

Goosen has won six times on the PGA Tour, but not since he captured the 2005 International. He made 12 birdies, two eagles and four bogeys over the first two rounds.

"I turned 40 last week, so I felt a bit depressed about that," Goosen said. "But Vijay (Singh) started playing his best golf when he was turning 40. You keep that in the back of your mind."
