Falcons seeking to trade Michael Vick

ATLANTA, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- The Atlanta Falcons are trying to trade quarterback Michael Vick, currently serving a federal prison term, the team announced on its Web site.

Falcons management refused Friday to discuss Vick beyond the posted statement from Thomas Dimitroff, the general manager, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

"We feel a trade is the best move for the Falcons, and it's also in the best interest of Michael," Dimitroff said. "This has been a really unique situation from a variety of standpoints and because we will actively be involved in a trade situation, I don't envision our organization speaking any more about this subject publicly until it's reached a resolution."

Vick has a multimillion-dollar contract through 2013, affecting the Falcons' salary cap. He was indefinitely suspended by the NFL after his conviction for running a dog-fighting operation.

Former Falcons safety Keion Carpenter told the newspaper he recently visited Vick, who is scheduled for release in July.

"He wants to get his life back on track and get back to his family," he said. "Football is on his radar, but only after he gets his life back in order. Once he does that, the football will fall into place."
