NHL: Ottawa 3, Buffalo 1

BUFFALO, N.Y., Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Brian Elliott took a shutout into the third period Wednesday and made 31 saves to bring Ottawa a 3-1 win over Buffalo.

Ottawa completed a sweep of the home-and-home series and defeated Buffalo for the third time in four meetings this year. The Senators' 3-2 win over Buffalo Saturday ended a four-game losing streak.

Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson both scored on the power play, giving the Senators a 3-0 lead after two periods.

Buffalo could not score until 1:29 into the third period, when Ales Kotalik put a slap shot past Elliott on the power play.

Ryan Miller allowed the three goals on 23 shots. Ottawa is 6-4-2 in its last 12 games after winning just once in its previous nine contests.
