COL BKB: N.C. State 82, Wake Forest 76

RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Brandon Costner scored 11 straight points in the second half Wednesday and finished with 23, allowing North Carolina State to surprise No. 8 Wake Forest 82-76.

Costner made 8-of-13 shots from the field and claimed nine rebounds. The Wolfpack won an Atlantic Coast Conference game in regulation for the first time this season.

Tracy Smith contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds for North Carolina State (13-9, 3-6 ACC).

Wake Forest, which won its first 16 games this season, has lost four of its last six. James Johnson paced the Demon Deacons (18-4, 5-4) with 18 points.

Costner scored his 11 consecutive points in a span of less than 2 minutes to give the Wolfpack a 62-42 lead with 13:44 to play.

Wake Forest climbed back within two with a minute to play, but North Carolina State made its free throws down the stretch to clinch the victory.
