
PHOENIX, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Tuomo Ruutu had two goals and an assist and the Carolina Hurricanes scored three times in both the second and third periods Saturday in a 7-2 rout of Phoenix.
Sergei Samsonov had one goal and three assists, while Chad LaRose, Patrick Eaves, Matt Cullen and Eric Staal all scored once in Carolina's biggest offensive outburst this season. Cam Ward was credited with 30 saves on 32 shots in the Hurricanes' fourth win in five games.
Shane Doan and Steven Goertzen scored goals for Phoenix.
Starting goalie Ilya Bryzgalov was pulled after giving up four goals on 28 shots through two periods, while backup Mikael Tellqvist allowed three goals on 13 shots in the third period, in the Coyotes' sixth consecutive loss.
Carolina was 4-for-5 on power play chances, and Phoenix went 1-for-5.
