LA JOLLA, Calif., Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Camilo Villegas' 2-under-par 70 in Friday's second round helped him retain the lead at the PGA Buick Invitational in La Jolla, Calf.
Rounds rotate from the easier North Course and the South Course at Torrey Pines in suburban San Diego. Swirling winds and violent rain spurts interrupted play several times.
Villegas played the South Course Friday. His lone bogey came at the par-4 first hole.
"I started losing a little confidence out there," he admitted after a blazing 9-under 63 in Thursday's first round. "I do need to do a little work on my driver."
His 36-hole total, 11-under 133, leads John Rollins (64) by one stroke.
Charley Hoffman (66) is alone in third at 7-under 137.
Reigning PGA Tour player of the year Padraig Harrington (74) is one of 15 golfers at 1-over 145, good for 50th place.
U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Corey Pavin (147) and Rory Sabbatini (154) were among the players missing the 2-over 146 cut.
