CALGARY, Alberta, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Nikolai Khabibulin held Calgary scoreless over the final two periods Thursday, bringing the Chicago Blackhawks a 5-2 decision over the Flames.
The Blackhawks improved to 4-1 on a coast-to-coast, eight-game road trip.
Dion Phaneuf scored an unassisted goal with 5:55 to play in the first period that tied the game at 2-2. Khabibulin was perfect the rest of the way, making 29 saves while his teammates were pulling in front.
Adam Burish gave Chicago the lead midway through the second period with a tip-in, Colin Fraser scored 3:18 into the third period and Troy Brouwer produced a shorthanded goal into an empty net with 2:08 remaining.
Miikka Kiprusoff made 28 saves for the Flames.
Chicago closed within seven points of idle Detroit for the top spot in the Central Division. The Blackhawks swept the four-game series from Calgary for the first time in 15 seasons.
