OTTAWA, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- A goal by P.J. Axelsson in the fifth round of the shootout Thursday gave the Boston Bruins a 4-3 victory over Ottawa.
Neither team could score in the shootout until Axelsson moved the puck to his backhand side and shoved it between the pads of Brian Elliott. Tim Thomas made a series of spectacular saves to keep Ottawa off the scoreboard in the shootout.
Boston won its fourth straight and has six victories in seven games. Blake Wheeler and Zdeno Chara both had a goal and an assist and Thomas made 19 saves.
Elliott stopped 27-of-30 shots in the Senators' fourth straight setback.
Ottawa overcame a two-score deficit and took the lead 8:33 into the third period on a power-play goal by Jason Spezza.
Chuck Kobasew lifted Boston back into a tie and forced overtime by scoring on the power play with 4:02 remaining in regulation.
