CORAL GABLES, Fla., Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Jack McClinton made six three-points shots Wednesday, scored 32 points and carried Miami to a surprising 79-52 whipping of No. 7 Wake Forest.

The Demon Deacons won their first 16 games of the season and climbed to the No. 1 national ranking, but have dropped three of their last four. The last two setbacks have come against teams in the bottom half of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Adrian Thomas made 4-of-5 three-point attempts and added 14 points for the Hurricanes (15-7, 4-5 ACC), who had lost their three previous games.

Wake Forest (17-3, 4-3) was led by Jeff Teague with 19 points.

Miami owned a three-point lead at halftime, but Wake Forest could make just two field goals during the first nine minutes of the second period. The Hurricanes defeated Wake Forest for only the second time in nine all-time meetings.
