Karlovic, Ancic win; top-seed Andreev out

ZAGREB, Croatia, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Croatians Ivo Karlovic and Mario Ancic advanced while top-seeded Russian Igor Andreev was upset Tuesday at the Zagreb Indoors.

Croatian qualifier Iva Dodig beat Andreev in 6-1, 6-4, the Russian's second opening-round setback this season.

The 6-foot-10 Karlovic, seeded third, defeated German Philipp Petzschner 6-3, 6-4 and 6-foot-5 Ancic, the seventh seed, beat Slovakian qualifier Lukas Lacko 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 7-5.

Karlovic will meet defending Zagreb champion Sergiy Stakhovsky in the second round, while Ancic will go against Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili. Stakhovsky, the Ukranian who advanced with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win over Slovakian qualifier Dominik Hrbaty, beat Croatian Ivan Ljubicic in last year's finale.
