VINA DEL MAR, Chile, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Argentine Agustin Calleri beat Nicolas Massu of Chile Tuesday to advance to the second round at the $496,750 Movistar Open.
The seventh-seeded Calleri struggled in the first set, but defeated Massu 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
In other opening-round action, Brian Dabul beat fellow Argentine Diego Junqueira 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 6-1; Argentine lucky-loser Sebastian Decoud beat Italian Fabio Fognini 6-3, 7-5; Argentine qualifier Maximo Gonzalez defeated Serbian qualifier Boris Pashanski 6-3, 6-2; Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci beat Argentine qualifier Juan Pablo Brzezicki 6-2, 6-3; and Uruguayan qualifier Pablo Cuevas beat Ecuador's Nicolas Lapentti 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
Gonzalez has a second-round match against top-seeded and defending Vina del Mar champion Fernando Gonzalez, who claimed the title here last year when Argentine Juan Monaco pulled out of the final with an ankle injury.
