VINA DEL MAR, Chile, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Fifth-seeded Argentine Juan Monaco and Argentine wild card Juan Ignacio Chela were among Monday's first-round winners at Movistar Open in Vina del Mar, Chile.

Monaco defeated France's Nicolas Devilder 6-2, 6-4 and Chela posted a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 victory over Spaniard Pablo Andujar.

Monaco, 24, reached the final here last year, but pulled out of the title match against Chilean Fernando Gonzalez because of an ankle injury.

In opening-round play, Vassallo Arguello beat eighth-seeded Spaniard Oscar Hernandez 6-3, 7-6 (7-1); Daniel Gimeno-Traver beat Spaniard Alberto Martin, who retired in the third set with cramping, 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-6; and Italian Potito Starace beat Brazilian Marcos Daniel 6-4, 6-4.
