MELBOURNE, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- India's tennis duo of Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi Sunday won the mixed doubles championship at the 2009 Australian Open in Melbourne.

The Mirza-Bhupathi team beat Frenchwoman Nathalie Dechy and Israeli Andy Ram 6-3, 6-1 at Melbourne Park.

The duo last year lost in the finals at the Australian Open.

Bhupathi, after Sunday's win, has won seven mixed doubles Grand Slam titles. Mirza won her first. The two will split the $86,000 prize.
