Henrik Stenson leads Dubai golf event

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Sweden's Henrik Stenson shot 7-under-par 65 Friday and sits at the top of the leader board at the Dubai Desert Classic after two rounds.

The weather-plagued European Tour tournament has experienced fog delays both days, and some players never got a chance to tee off in Friday's second round.

The opening round was completed Friday morning, and Stenson made seven birdies and no bogeys.

"It was a grinding day," said Stenson, a joint runner-up at last week's Qatar Masters.

His 36-hole total, 11-under 133, leads Australia's Richard Green (63) by one stroke.

World No. 2 Sergio Garcia (66) of Spain is third at 8-under 136, with first-round leader Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland and South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen tied for fourth.

The cut will be decided when the second round is completed.

The tournament's 2008 champion, Tiger Woods, was unable to defend his title because he continues his recovery from left knee surgery.
