Urine samples may tie Bonds to steroid use

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Urine samples linked to former San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds allegedly prove the baseball star has used anabolic steroids, a source says.

An anonymous source who reviewed the urine samples said federal prosecutors allegedly found anabolic steroids in the evidence, which would strengthen their case against Bonds in the former MLB star's upcoming perjury trial, The New York Times said Thursday.

The new evidence also allegedly links Bonds to other performance-enhancing drugs outside of the so-called cream and clear designer substances, the source said.

Bonds has been accused of lying before a federal grand jury in 2003 by stating he never knowingly used any performance-enhancing drugs.

The holder of the Major League Baseball career home run record was indicted on perjury charges in 2007 and his perjury trial is scheduled to begin on March 2.

The Times said the urine samples could also pose a problem for Bonds in regards to his earlier grand jury claims that his former trainer, Greg Anderson, never injected him with any substances.
