Colin White tried to win it in overtime with a blast from the left point and the puck bounced off goaltender Tim Thomas and two other players before landing on Langenbrunner's stick. He spun around to get a look at the goal and fired the winning shot under an out-of-position Thomas.

Langenbrunner's first goal of the game came shorthanded and gave the Devils a 1-0 lead after the opening period.

New Jersey managed a victory after letting a two-goal lead slip away in the third period. Boston took a 3-2 lead with 6:30 to play on Dennis Wideman's slapshot, but Patrik Elias tied it with 1:45 left by tipping in a shot.

Scott Clemmensen made 24 saves to get the win and Thomas stopped 26 shots.
