The Valencia, Calif., native is 106-89 with a 4.47 ERA in nine seasons, the first eight with the Chicago White Sox, and 2008 with the LA Angels.

"Jon has proven to be a durable, consistent starter," said Arizona executive vice president and general manager Josh Byrnes. "We feel that adding him to our rotation gives us championship caliber starting pitching."

He was a 10th round draft pick in 1997 by the Chicago Cubs, was dealt to the White Sox prior to the non-waiver trade deadline in 1998.

Garland, 29, has thrown at least 190 innings in each of the last seven seasons, missing only one start in his nine-year career.
