
AUBURN HILLS, Minn., Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Ron Artest scored 24 points Sunday to lead six players in double figures when the Houston Rockets edged the Detroit Pistons, 108-105.
Artest sank three free throws in the final 14 seconds to quell Detroit's comeback, and also had nine rebounds. His effort came in his first game back following a seven-game absence because of an ankle injury.
Luis Scola scored 21 points, Tracy McGrady had 15, and Rafer Alston and Shane Battier scored 14 apiece. Alston added 10 assists with four rebounds in the Rockets' fourth win in their last five outings.
Houston nearly wasted its 96-81 advantage with 10:22 left in the fourth period.
Richard Hamilton's 27 points and five assists led Detroit. Rasheed Wallace scored 22 with 11 rebounds.
Allen Iverson had 17 points and eight assists, and Rodney Stuckey had 14 points, eight assists and five rebounds for the Pistons, who have lost two straight and seven of nine.
They closed to 105-103 with 23 seconds left, but ran out of gas.
