Jeremy Abbott takes U.S. skating title

CLEVELAND, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Jeremy Abbott won his first U.S. figure skating championship Sunday, racking up a total of 241.89 points in the competition in Cleveland.

The 23-year-old Abbott clinched the title by amassing 155.49 points in the free-skate portion of the event. He earlier had registered a record 86.40 points in the short program.

Brandon Mroz placed second overall and Evan Lysacek was third.
