COLUMBUS, Ohio, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Durrell Summers scored a career-high 26 points Sunday and seventh-ranked Michigan State rallied for a 78-67 Big Ten Conference win over Ohio State.
The Spartans trailed the young Buckeyes 31-26 at the break, despite Summers' 16 points to that point.
William Buford's three-pointer extended their lead to 38-30 with 17:16 remaining. The Spartans finally went ahead 44-42 when Summers sank a three-pointer with 13:59 left, and dominated the contest from that point.
Their second-half scoring advantage was 52-36.
Summers sank 8-of-13 shots (6-of-9 three-pointers). His outburst was handy because MSU's scoring leader, Kalin Lucas, was benched at the start for undisclosed academic reasons. Lucas scored 20 points with three rebounds and three assists in 31 minutes.
Goran Sutton added 13 points with nine rebounds for the Spartans (16-3, 6-1), who have won 12 of their last 13 contests.
Evan Turner's 19 points and six rebounds led the Buckeyes (13-5, 3-4).
Jon Diebler and B.J. Mullens both scored 12, and Buford added 11 points.
