MILWAUKEE, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- The Milwaukee Bucks have lost star guard Michael Redd for the rest of the season to a torn left-knee ligament, the team announced.

The long-range sharpshooter suffered the injury Saturday in the third period of the Bucks' 106-104 win over Sacramento. The extent of the damage was determined Sunday morning during an MRI performed by Dr. Mike Gordon, the team's orthopedic physician.

"I'm deeply disappointed but everything in life happens for a reason and this is God's plan for me," the 29-year-old Redd said in a statement on the Bucks' Web site. "I have faith in my teammates and coaches to continue to work together to make our fans proud. I will be supporting them wholeheartedly from the sidelines and working equally hard to return to the court in the best condition possible for next season."

In 33 games this season, Redd averaged a team-high 21.2 points to go with more than three rebounds and nearly three assists per game.
