SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Joe Thornton assisted on both San Jose goals Tuesday, helping the Sharks escape with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

With the goalie pulled for an extra attacker, Thornton set up Devin Setoguchi's goal -- his 21st this season -- with 40 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. He then fed Patrick Marleau, who nailed a one-timer for his game-winner 3:08 into the extra session.

Evgeni Nabokov made 13 saves in the San Jose win.

Taylor Pyatt scored his sixth goal of the season for Vancouver at 12:38 of the first period. Roberto Luongo was merely seconds away from his sixth shutout of the season, but suffered the overtime loss and finished with 27 saves.

Claude Lemieux made his return to the NHL after nearly six years, playing on the Sharks' fourth line. Lemieux, who was recalled from San Jose's top farm club Monday, showed there's still some life in his 43-year-old legs, registering a shot on goal and getting a check or two in.

The Sharks have won five of their last six games and are 22-1-2 at home this season. The Canucks are winless in their last six games.
