MELBOURNE, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Roger Federer continued his quest for a fourth Australian Open title Wednesday with a lopsided, three-set win over Evgeny Korolev.

The second-seeded Swiss star defeated the Russian 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the third round against another Russian, Marat Safin, another former Aussie Open winner who is seeded 26th.

Safin, the 2005 champion, defeated Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 in his second-round match.

Federer has 13 major titles in his career and needs just one more Grand Slam title to equal the record set by American Pete Sampras.

Other second-round winners Wednesday included Serbian Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer of Spain, Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland, Marin Cilic of Croatia, Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic, Tommy Robredo of Spain and Bosnian-born American Amer Delic.
