
EAST LANSING, Mich., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Kevin Coble scored 31 points Wednesday to lead Northwestern to a 70-63 Big Ten Conference upset of 12th-ranked Michigan State.
He capped his night by making one of two free throws, giving NU an insurmountable 70-63 lead with 43 seconds left.
Coble added four rebounds and four steals.
Michael Thompson score 20 with three assists and Craig Moore added 11 points for the Wildcats (10-6, 2-4), who ended a four-game conference losing streak.
They won despite a 34-33 halftime deficit, and broke a 21-game losing streak at Michigan State's Breslin Center.
Kalin Lucas led Michigan State with 20 points and six rebounds, but six of his team's 18 turnovers.
Goran Sutton scored 15 with 14 rebounds, while Durrell Summers added 11 points for the Spartans (15-3, 5-1), and had their 28-game home winning streak snapped.
MSU's Chris Allen scored just six points and committed a team-high seven turnovers.
