Sharks recall 43-year-old Lemieux

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Aging forward Claude Lemieux was called up by the San Jose Sharks Monday, ending his six-season absence from the National Hockey League.

The Sharks placed defenseman Brad Lukowich on injured reserve and reassigned forwards Brad Staubitz and Tom Cavanagh to its minor league club in Worcester.

Lemieux, 43, scored three goals and had eight assists in 23 games with Worcester as he tuned up for a possible NHL return.

He has scored 379 goals with 406 assists in 1,197 games with Dallas, Phoenix, New Jersey, Colorado and Montreal. He has won four Stanley Cups, two with New Jersey and one each with Montreal and Colorado.

Lukowich was placed on the injured list retroactive to Jan. 6. He has six assists in 36 games this season.
