NHL: Buffalo 3, Florida 2 (SO)

SUNRISE, Fla., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Ales Kotalik scored the winning goal in the shootout Monday to enable the Buffalo Sabres to beat the Florida Panthers 3-2.

Tim Connolly and Thomas Vanek also scored for the Sabres, who have won three straight games and seven of their last nine. Toni Lydman and Jason Pominville had assists and Ryan Miller stopped 27-of-29 shots for Buffalo.

David Booth had a goal and an assist for the Panthers, who have lost two of three but have not lost in regulation in January. Florida has registered a point in eight consecutive contests (5

Nathan Horton also scored for Florida and Tomas Vokoun made 21 saves.
