PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Reliever Ryan Madson signed a three-year contract extension with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Monday Madson could make as much as $12 million if he reaches all his incentives. He must pass a physical before the contract, which buys out his final arbitration year and two free-agent years, is official.
The right-hander went 4-2 with a 3.05 earned-run average in 76 games in 2008 for the World Series champion. He had a 2.13 ERA in 12 2/3 innings in the post-season but blew two save opportunities.
Madson, 28, is 32-21 lifetime with five saves and a 3.94 ERA in 295 games (18 starts) for the Phillies.
Philadelphia also worked out a long-term deal with ace Cole Hamels during the weekend. Among the five Phillies still eligible for arbitration are Ryan Howard, Jayson Werth, Shane Victorino, Chad Durbin and Joe Blanton.
