NHL: Buffalo 3, Carolina 1

BUFFALO, N.Y., Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Tim Connolly had two goals and Ryan Miller blocked 36-of-37 shots Saturday night to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Teppo Numminen also scored for the Sabres, who have won six of their last eight games. Thomas Vanek had two assists for Buffalo.

Ryan Whitney scored the lone goal for Carolina, which has lost five straight games for the first time in more than two years. Cam Ward stopped 23 shots for the Hurricanes.
