SUNRISE, Fla., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Simon Gagne produced the only goal of the shootout Friday, bringing the Philadelphia Flyers a 3-2 victory over Florida.

Gagne faked out Tomas Vokoun and beat the Panthers goaltender with a backhander, allowing the Flyers to end a two-game skid and win for the third time in five games.

Antero Niittymaki stopped all three shots he saw in the shootout after making 32 saves in regulation and overtime for Philadelphia.

Gagne scored a power-play goal with 5:52 to go in the first period, giving Philadelphia a 2-0 lead. Florida came back in the second period on goals from Bryan McCabe and Jay Bouwmeester. Both came on the power play.

The Panthers had won their previous three outings.

Jeff Carter scored Philadelphia's first goal, giving him a career high 30 this season. Carter leads the NHL in goal scoring by one over Washington's Alex Ovechkin.
