NHL: New Jersey 5, Vancouver 3

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Brian Rolston and Zach Parise scored in the game's first 3:30 Tuesday and New Jersey held on to defeat Vancouver 5-3.

The quick scores by Rolston and Parise led to Vancouver goaltender Jason LaBarbera being replaced by Curtis Sanford, who gave up two goals on 19 shots the rest of the way.

New Jersey built a 4-1 lead early in the third period, but Pavol Demitra and Steve Bernier scored to cut the Canucks' deficit to 4-3.

With Vancouver having pulled its goaltender and the Canucks swarming around the Devils' net, Dainius Zubrus managed to produce an empty-net goal with 39 seconds to go that clinched it.

The Canucks lost their third straight.

Scott Clemmensen made 26 saves for the Devils, who had lost three of their previous four games. New Jersey is in third place in the Atlantic Division, but is only three points behind the division-leading New York Rangers.
