WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- DaJuan Summers sparked Georgetown to an early lead Wednesday and the 12th-ranked Hoyas posted a convincing 88-74 win over No. 8 Syracuse.

Summers scored 21 points in the key Big East Conference duel, helping Georgetown hand Syracuse only its second loss of the season.

The Orange (16-2, 4-1) had won seven in a row since their other loss, that being a stunning setback to Cleveland State on Dec. 15.

Austin Freeman added 19 points for Georgetown (12-3, 3-2), winners of nine out of 11. The Hoyas shot 59.3 percent from the floor and used a 14-0 run to take a 34-17 lead with 5:30 remaining in the first half. Syracuse came no closer than eight the rest of the way.

Eric Devendorf led the Orange with 20 points and Paul Harris had 15 to go with 11 rebounds.

Georgetown will attempt to record a second straight win against a top-10 team when it travels to No. 2 Duke Saturday.
