Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

ATLANTA, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Right-hander Derek Lowe has reached a four-year contract worth $60 million with the Atlanta Braves that will be official when he passes a physical Wednesday.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday the Braves had locked up Lowe, 35, the same day they signed Japanese right-hander Kenshin Kawakami and officially lost John Smoltz to Boston. The Braves also picked up right-hander Javier Vazquez during the off-season.
Lowe went 14-11 with a 3.24 earned run average last year, his fourth with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He made three post-season starts last year, going 1-1 with a 3.31 ERA.
