MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Shawn Marion's free throws put Miami in front with 22 seconds remaining Tuesday and the Heat held on to edge Minnesota 99-96.
The Timberwolves had a five-game winning streak -- all against teams with losing records -- come to an end after they had built as much as a 13-point lead in the second period.
Randy Foye's three-point shot with 2 minutes to play gave Minnesota a 96-95 lead, but the Timberwolves could not score another point.
Marion's two free throws put the Heat in front 97-96, after which Dwyane Wade and Michael Beasley made one out of two foul shots each.
Foye missed a three-point attempt at the buzzer.
Wade scored 31 points, hitting 13-of-16 from the free throw line. Miami is 2-2 four games deep into a season-long, seven game road trip.
Udonis Haslem added 17 points for Miami and Marion had 16. Foye led the Timberwolves with 29.
