CLEVELAND, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Catcher Kelly Shoppach signed a one-year deal with the Cleveland Indians, the American League team said Monday.

The Indians didn't say how much they will be paying the 28-year-old catcher, who was eligible for arbitration.

Shoppach hit .261 with 21 homers, driving in 55 runs in his career-best 112 games last season. He has a .252 career batting average with 31 homers and 101 RBI.

Cleveland also said infielder Michael Aubrey cleared waivers and was sent to Class AAA Columbus to make room on the 40-man big league roster for Carl Pavano.
