AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Seventh-ranked Texas, led by a 19-point effort by Damion Jones, won for the ninth time in its last 11 games Saturday, holding off Iowa State 75-67.
The Longhorns scored six straight points to take a nine-point lead with about 9 minutes to play and didn't let the Cyclones get closer than five the rest of the way.
Gary Johnson scored 17 points for Texas (12-3, 1-0 Big 12).
The game's top scorer was Iowa State's Craig Brackins with 20 points. Lucca Staiger had 15 points and five assists and Diante Garrett added 11 points and four assists.
Cyclones (11-5, 0-1) had won their previous four games.
