WASHINGTON, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Rookie Steve Mason put on another dominating show Friday, stopping 45 shots for his sixth shutout of the season to give Columbus a 3-0 win over Washington.
Mason, who last month recorded three straight shutouts and set a franchise record for most consecutive scoreless minutes, led the Blue Jackets to their sixth win in eight games.
Fedor Tyutin, Jared Boll and R.J. Umberger produced the Blue Jackets' goals and both Tyutin and Boll had an assist.
Jose Theodore allowed all three goals on 23 shots for Washington, which lost at home for the first time since Dec. 2. The Capitals had won seven in a row overall, which had been the longest active winning streak in the NHL.
Mason made 18 stops in the first period and helped kill off three Washington power plays.
Columbus wrapped up a season-long six-game road trip with a 4-2 record.
