ST. PAUL, Minn., Jan. 7 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Wild called up untested minor league defenseman John Scott after putting star right wing Marion Gaborik on injured reserve.

Gaborik, the team's premier scoring threat when healthy, has started a rehabilitation program after surgery on his left hip Monday and is expected to be out 10-14 weeks. He has been out most of the season with injuries.

Scott, 26, has never played in an NHL regular-season game. But his size -- 6-foot-8, 258 pounds -- will immediately make him stand out, if not a standout, with the Wild.

He has two goals and 82 penalty minutes for the Houston Aeros.

Scott suffered an injury in a Wild pre-season game in early October and appeared in his first game with the Aeros Nov. 7. He has 11 points and 371 penalty minutes in 153 games in three seasons with Houston.
