Dementieva posts second-round victory

AUCKLAND, New Zealand, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Russia's Elena Dementieva, the No. 1 seed, coasted to a second-round win Wednesday in the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand.

Dementieva, the singles gold medal winner at the 2008 Summer Olympics, ousted Marina Erakovic of New Zealand 6-2, 6-3.

Caroline Wozniacki, the second seed, defeated American Jill Craybas 6-4, 7-5.

Romanian Edina Gallovits eliminated third-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain 6-3, 6-3 and Japanese qualifier Ayumi Morita knocked out fourth-seeded Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada.

Israeli Shahar Peer, the No. 5 seed, advanced with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Others winning were Russia's Elena Vesnini, Aravane Rezai of France and Ann Keothavong of Britain.
