Ivanovic advances in WTA season-opener

BRISBANE, Australia, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Serb Ana Ivanovic posted a straight-set victory Monday in the opening round of the Brisbane International tournament in Australia.

Ivanovic, winner of the French Open last year, eliminated unranked Czech Petra Kvitova, 6-4, 6-2.

The fourth seed, Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia, was ousted by Sara Errani of Italy, who came from behind to score a 6-7 (1-7), 6-4, 6-0 win.

Fifth-seeded Amelie Mauresmo of France topped wild card Australian Jelena Dokic, 7-6 (11-9), 7-6 (7-5).

The tournament is the first of the year on the WTA tour.
