
SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Mike Grier had two goals and Jonathan Cheechoo had three assists Saturday night in the San Jose Sharks' 5-3 win over the New York Islanders.
Patrick Marleau, Dan Boyle and Ryane Clowe scored for the Sharks, who ran their home points' streak to 30 games and have not lost at home in regulation this season (19
Evgeni Nabokov stopped 21 shots and Joe Thornton had two assists for San Jose.
Richard Park had a goal and two assists, and Thomas Pock and Tim Jackman had goals for the Islanders, who lost their 12th straight road contest. Joey MacDonald finished with 42 saves for New York.
The Sharks were up 4-1 when Jackman made it 4-2 with a shorthanded goal at 16:50 of the third. A little over a minute later, Pock scored on a slapshot to get the Islanders within a goal of the Sharks.
San Jose kept New York out of the net the rest of the way and Marleau provided some insurance with an empty-net goal with 9.5 seconds left to play.
