CHICAGO, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- The Chicago Blackhawks pulled away with second-period goals by Andrew Ladd, Kris Versteeg and Dustin Byfuglien Sunday and beat the Calgary Flames 5-2.
The three goals, which put Chicago ahead 4-1, came in a span of less than six minutes.
Martin Havlat scored for the Blackhawks in the first period and Patrick Sharp added an empty-netter with 1:41 remaining in the third.
Nikolai Khabibulin made 34 saves for Chicago, which has won 10 of its last 12 games.
Todd Bertuzzi and Daymond Langkow got the Flames' goals, Bertuzzi in the second period and Langkow on a power play in the third.
Calgary's Miikka Kiprusoff had 24 saves before he was replaced by Curtis McElhinney, who blocked all seven shots he faced in the third period.
