Report: Dungy to consider retiring

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Indianapolis Colts Coach Tony Dungy will consider retirement after the season concludes, ESPN reported Saturday.

The report said Dungy will spend the first full week this off-season contemplating whether to return or retire.

"I've really enjoyed the season," he said. "It was really a unique challenge to be 3-4 and then see our team really come together the way that it has to make the playoffs."

Indianapolis meets San Diego in a wild-card game Saturday.

Dungy has taken this same approach the past four years, but changed his mind.

Team owner Robert Irsay's decision to give Dungy the use of a private plane for him to travel from Indianapolis to Tampa, Fla., for his son's high school football games this season was a major factor in his return.

Also, Dungy said he never felt fatigued from the travel or thought it compromised the Colts, but he conceded that he was close to retiring after the Colts' 2006 Super Bowl victory.
