GLENDALE, Ariz., Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Zbynek Michalek had a goal and an assist Friday and the Phoenix Coyotes held off a late surge to defeat the New York Islanders 5-4.

Phoenix took a 5-2 lead with 6:27 to play on Joakim Lindstrom's unassisted goal. Richard Park then scored twice to make it interesting -- the second of his goals coming with 28 seconds remaining -- but Mikael Tellqvist held on and finished with 29 saves.

The Coyotes have won three out of four.

Doug Weight had two assists for the Islanders, the first of which was the 1,000th point of his career.

New York lost for the third time in four games and has dropped 11 in a row on the road.

New York goaltender Rick DiPietro, who had missed three games with a groin injury, allowed five goals on 33 shots.
